October Winds
by Virginia D. Randall

October winds are new and clean;
They sweep the land for Halloween;
They snatch the leaves from all the trees,
Then soften down to faintest breeze.

They chase the cobwebs from the sky,
They bare the crow's nest, way up high;
They sway the poplars in the park,
They push in storm clouds, gray and dark.

They bring a warning nip of frost,
Reminding birds that summer's lost;
Then gently shoo the flocks away,
Before the winter comes to stay.
